Piet Masilela – currently an External Moderator of isiNdebele under Umalusi – started his career as an educator with the Department of Education in Mpumalanga, later becoming a deputy principal. He was appointed as Subject Advisor of isiNdebele in the Mpumalanga Province and has participated in the development of the outcomes-based education (OBE) and the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) policies representing isiNdebele. He introduced isiNdebele at the University of Venda, where he served as a lecturer, and has also presented academic papers and published a series of grammar books.
